Cove Island Park

Save Logo Cove Island is a municipal park located in Stamford, CT that boasts a variety of habitats for coastal studies. On the west side of the park, Horseshoe beach, named for its shape, provides 6 habitats for exploration including tidepool, mud flat, sandy beach, salt marsh, rocky shore and water column. On the east side of
the park, we find a fresh water river that flows over a dam and empties into the Sound. A perimeter of salt marsh opens out into a sand spit formation along a channel providing a protected area for many species of animals. A long shallow sandy beach area provides direct access to open water and a plethora of tidepool animals. This is where we usually find baby horseshoe crabs.
