The powerful forces of Mother Nature are featured prominently this month with five episodes of Assignment Discovery's Raging Planet, a series that spans subjects across the curriculum. For example, "Hurricane" (pictured) explains how powerful tropical storms gather momentum; "Lightning" examines what causes spectacular atmospheric discharges of electricity; and "Avalanche" looks at the physics of avalanches and the engineers who try to prevent them. Featuring dramatic storm footage, Raging Planet includes interviews with people who have lived through cataclysmic events and looks at the scientists attempting to predict them.
